God’s love, faithfulness, and sufficiency is not tied to the past, the present, or the future.
[0:00] A Pastor's Reflections. Permanently Sufficient. John 6, 34-35. Then said unto him, Lord, evermore, give us this bread.
[0:14] ! And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life.! He that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst. Psalm 90, verse 2.
[0:25] Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou had formed the earth and the world. Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. 2 Corinthians 3, 5.
[0:38] Not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God. How interesting it is to experience God's faithfulness.
[0:50] There is nothing else in the world that can compare to the sufficiency of God's love for us. We are used to certain permanencies in life. that, when disrupted, become a source of extreme discomfort and frustration.
[1:05] We have certain expectations about life that we depend on always being there. Whether it is our health, our jobs, or our relationships, we expect that these things will continue tomorrow because they have done so in our past.
[1:20] We are, in essence, basing our future not on what we are sure will be, but upon what we have previously been sure has been.
[1:32] How do we then know that the assurity of the past will carry into the future? We don't. In fact, we can all testify that many things we have once thought so sure in our past have since proved to be not so definite for our future.
[1:51] Numbers 23, 19 God is not a man that he should lie, neither the son of man that he should repent. Has he said, and shall not he do it?
[2:02] Or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good? God's love, however, is not like the dependencies of this world. God's love is not based upon its past faithfulness, but its eternal faithfulness.
[2:16] God's love has been and will be 100% faithful. There is a sufficiency to the love of God that permeates every aspect of our past, present, and future.
[2:29] 2 Corinthians 5, 14 For the love of Christ constrains us. We are kept and sustained by the love of God. I do not need to fear that this love lacks permanence or that it will prove to be one of those things that, while once faithful, is now simply a thing of the past.
[2:50] God's love, faithfulness, and sufficiency is not tied to the past, the present, or the future. God's faithfulness and love is an eternally sufficient, ever faithful love that is anchored not in the permanency of my experience, but in the permanency of God.
[3:12] Hebrews 13, 8 Jesus Christ The same yesterday and today and forever. Father, thank you for your ever-enduring word that speaks to me of your ever-faithful love.
[3:26] Thank you that the love of God displayed upon the cross was not just for that moment, but for all moments and for all men. Thank you that Jesus is presently and permanently sufficient.
[3:40] Amen. .
