Jesus constrained Himself to our temporary living conditions so that He might supply what was needed to secure for us an eternal dwelling place.
[0:00] A pastor's reflections, a needed supply, John 4.14.! Philippians 4.19.
[0:35] But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. The world we live in is a world based upon need.
[0:47] Almost everything we experience in our lives revolves around a need that must be fulfilled. Eating, breathing, sleeping, even relationships.
[0:57] They all have at their core a basic need that cries out for fulfillment. Having need is not a bad thing. But our efforts to satisfy our needs are not always free from negative effects.
[1:13] The world, the flesh, and the devil are all very skilled at convincing us that they have the supply that will fulfill our needs. 1 John 2.16-17.
[1:28] For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof.
[1:42] But he that does the will of God abides forever. Can the temporary things of this world fulfill need? Yes, they can. Temporarily.
[1:52] And the enemy of our souls will be right there, ready to give us the next temporary fix, as soon as the current one has run its course. Does that mean I should not take part in anything temporary that this world has to offer?
[2:08] No, not at all. But what it does mean is that the temporary things of this world are not to hold places of eternal value in our lives. God knows that we are a people created with need, and he is the one who has pledged himself to providing for the needs of his people.
[2:28] Matthew 6.26 God can meet all of our needs.
[2:46] And our greatest need is not one that can be filled by any temporary means, no matter how fulfilling it may seem. Our greatest need is not for food, clothing, or shelter.
[3:01] Our greatest need is not health or safety. Our greatest need is not related to the things of this life, but to a life lived in God. We have an eternal need that requires an eternal fulfillment.
[3:15] John 3.36 He that believes on the Son has everlasting life, and he that believes not the Son shall not see life.
[3:27] Jesus constrained himself to our temporary living conditions so that he might supply what was needed to secure for us an eternal dwelling place. As great as it is to know that God is supplying all that is needed for this temporary life, it is even greater to experience fulfillment on an eternal scale.
[3:49] Father, thank you for sending Jesus to secure for us an eternal relationship in an eternal home with you. Thank you that not only do we need not fear a lack of supply in this life, we will never need to fear a lack of supply in your eternal life.
[4:11] Amen. Amen.
