We must believe because we must be born of God’s Spirit, and we must be born of God’s Spirit if we want to partake of the life of God who is spirit.
[0:00] A pastor's reflections. We must. John 3.7 Marvel not that I said unto you, you must be born again.! John 4.24 God is a spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
[0:18] Luke 2.49 And he said unto them, how is it that you sought me? Knew you not that I must be about my father's business? Knew you not that I must be about my father's business.
[0:56] He did this because a relationship with God is one of those things that we must have. Without a relationship with God, we will be left alone in our fallen state of sin and destined for an afterlife of eternal separation.
[1:14] God sent Jesus to give his life a ransom so that we might reconnect with our creator and thereby partake of his everlasting life.
[1:26] That's great news. So what must I do to receive this life? Acts 16.30 and 31 Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
[1:39] And they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved in thy house. That's it? Just believe? Just acknowledge who Jesus is and what he's done?
[1:52] What else must I do? Surely there must be something else. I'm sure I must also be really well behaved, or stop all of my bad habits, or go to church regularly.
[2:04] Nope. Just believe. Belief satisfies Jesus' must for us. Because Jesus satisfied all of God's musts regarding sin on behalf of us.
[2:20] We must believe because we must be born of God's spirit. And we must be born of God's spirit if we want to partake of the life of God, who is spirit.
[2:32] Today, the barrier to God has been removed by Jesus, who did what he must do, his father's will. Now, it is up to us to do the part that we must do.
[2:49] Believe. Father, thank you that there is no longer any barrier that must first be removed for me to have a right relationship with you. Thank you that Jesus did what he must do so that I can now do what I delight to do.
[3:07] Love and obey you. Amen.
